My Point of View

My garage in Troy had a ten foot ceiling.  I stored my kayaks using Harken pulley systems.  These worked well for off season storage, but in-season I had to leave the boats on stands on the garage floor to make them easily accessible.  My florida garage has ceilings that are much lower making it impossible to use the pulley system.  The Talic Kayak Condo is the answer I found to the question of how do I store my boats so they’re out of the way, yet still easily accessible for use.  The condo comes in three flavors; storage for one, storage for two and storage for three kayaks.  Even though I have only two kayaks at the moment, I opted for the three boat condo, leaving me one place for future possibilities.

The condo arrived disassembled in a heavy box.  The construction materials and workmanship on the parts is first class.  The arms and slings go together easily.  Talic recommends sealing the raw wood.  I used several coats of Tung Oil which gave it a great look.  The only glitch I ran into is that the instructions assume that the condo will be mounted on the wooden studs of a wood frame house.  My house is stucco on block.  A call to the company got a quick response from an engineer who told me exactly what materials to buy to mount it on concrete.  The condo has two pre-drilled holes in each support beam.  I drilled a third, just to be sure it would hold in the concrete block.

As you can see from the photos, I mounted the supports just high enough to get the storage bins of my kayaking gear and camping materials underneath.  I like these units very much.  I find them easy to use as they are about at the correct height to easily engage a shoulder carry to may car.  And best of all, they only take the space between the edge of the garage door and the wall, a place that would have held shelving or gathered junk or debris otherwise.  I highly recommend the Talic Kayak Condo.  For information on purchasing a Kayak Condo, see the link below.
