My Review from Amazon.com:
Spring 2009: I am an avid sea kayaker. I need a waterproof camera to get good photos and video for my website. I have used a Pantax Optio 6mp water resistant camera for several years to good advantage. But the Optio did not take good quality video. I have just returned from a seven day, 138 mile trip down Florida's Suwannee River. The Xacti spent the trip in the pocket of my life jacket. I shot many photos and more than an hour of video with the camera (some of these have been posted to my website Yackman.com). I found the camera easy to use, and it seems to take both good still shots and video. It's small size makes it difficult to maintain a steady video shot, but I am learning. I found the battery life to be shorter than expected, but that is probably because I left the camera on standby mode for too long. I have since bought additional batteries to take care of that problem. I really like this camera.
Spring 2011: The comments above were made shortly after I bought this camera and they continue to be accurate. However, after three years of use on the water, in the water and on dry land I have these additional comments. My biggest frustration with using the camera is that the LCD screen is very difficult to see in bright light and nearly impossible to see with polarized sunglasses on, which of course are the conditions I often find myself in on the water. This was especially frustrating when trying to film a pod of Beluga whales surrounding my kayak. Out of more than 40 minutes of filming I got about 5 minutes of usable footage. The rest was empty sky and water. Also, the still shot reaction time is very slow as the camera takes time to focus, etc. It still takes great videos, even though I sometimes have to guess at where my target is (can't see it in the LCD screen). Even with these faults, I find that the camera is generally what I need when paddling, especially when the wind picks up and I am getting wet. Finally, a disappointment: The sound on the camera stopped recording several months ago, while the rest of the functions continued to work. Last month, the camera failed altogether. It now appears to be only useful as a pretty paper weight. I am in the process of contacting Sanyo to see if there is anything they can doo for me. But after three years, I think the failure is my problem. Still, I will consider purchasing another as this camera is not expensive and really is the only game in town.
There IS another game in town! It’s called the Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera. It gets great reviews and can be bought for about $110.00.
The Sanyo Xacti Waterproof Video Camera

The gear review below was done for Amazon.com. That will explain some of the language that doesn’t quite fit here. I have had some problems with the camera lately. It has come back to life recently but I can’t trust it at this point.
The Xacti sells for around $180.00. It takes good still photos and great videos. It can film underwater. (Click here to see my underwater video of manatees).
